Live from the Simulation, Vol. 2

Octave Cat

Octave Cat is a trio of Eli Winderman (Dopapod - keyboards), Jesse Miller (Lotus – bass/modular synth) and Charlie Patierno (drums). The music ranges from stripped down jazz-grooves to analog synth dance music. Influences such as Herbie Hancock jazz-funk and Four Tet electronica can be heard. Octave Cat pushes the jazz and jam boundaries by incorporating elements of electronica and in doing so they have carved out their own unique musical space. The band began as a 2016 session on Jesse Miller's modular and vintage synthesizers, named for the first instrument that session started with — the rare late-'70s The Cat by Octave. Their first show was SummerDance in Garrettsville, Ohio on September 3, 2016, and their self-titled debut followed in March 2017. Three studio albums — Octave Cat (2017), Refract (2019) and Sprezzatura (2023) — sit alongside the live records Live from the Simulation (2018), Refract (Live) (2025) and Live from the Simulation, Vol. 2 (January 2026), the last featuring Dopapod's Rob Compa. In 2026 the trio has played twenty club dates across the East, the Midwest and Colorado, festival sets including Gambler's Run, Beanstalk and SummerDance, and closes the year with six December dates from Pembroke, Massachusetts to Asbury Park, New Jersey.
